
He was born on September 14, 1946, to Penn Elton Myrick Sr. and Katherine “Kitty” Weimar Myrick in Savannah, Georgia. He attended Blessed Sacrament Catholic School and one year at Benedictine Military Academy before moving to Jacksonville with his parents and graduated from Englewood High School in 1965.
Paul was a proud and accomplished member of the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 16 in Savannah. He was the youngest to ever be pinned an Eagle Scout at age 15 and was also a member of the Order of the Arrow (OA), Scouting’s National Honor Society.
He obtained his Associate of Arts (AA) degree from St. Johns River Junior College in Palatka, Florida (1968) and his Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from Armstrong Atlantic State University in 1970.
In 1968 he married Shirley Callahan, and they had two daughters, Elizabeth “Noel” and Joy Marie.
He worked with his brothers, Penn Myrick, Jr. and Robert “Bud” Myrick in residential and resort-related construction in the coastal regions of Georgia and Florida. He built high-end custom homes and resort projects in Tybee Island, Sea Island, Sea Palms Golf and Country Club Resort, The Golden Isles of Georgia.
In 1973, they moved back to Jacksonville. Paul was the Business Office Manager at Baptist Medical Center for a few years, after which he returned to his love of construction and worked for several developers before becoming a Certified Building Contractor in 1982 and started his own company, Myrick Properties. He built over a hundred homes in the Mandarin/Julington Creek areas of Jacksonville, and some high-end homes in Amelia Island, Ponte Vedra Beach and World Golf Village. He also was a great friend of the Ramos family and built the original club house for the world-famous Kona Skate Park.
Paul loved surfing, water sports, boating, playing guitar, dancing, singing and spending time with family. He loved telling stories about growing up in Savannah with his brothers and cousins and was immensely proud of his daughters and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, infant sister Katherine Louise “Kathy” Myrick, eldest brother Penn Elton Myrick Jr. (2009), sister-in-law Sally Myrick (2019), and his infant grandson Austin Connor Albritton (1996).
He is survived by his dedicated, loving partner and caregiver of 23 years, Kathleen “Kathy” Val, her daughters Karen and Jessica, his devoted brother Robert “Bud” Myrick, and his wife Rosemary. He also leaves behind his daughters Noel Peters (Dow) and Joy Albritton (Lonny), and their mother Shirley Myrick. Other survivors include his five grandchildren: Shae Peters, Casey (Alejandro) Solanilla, Hannah Albritton, Nicholas Albritton, and Zoe Albritton. He was well-loved by his nieces and nephews, Melody, Rob, Sally Anne, Christine, Marianne, Anthony and Amy. He had many aunts, uncles and first cousins (who were part of the extensive Savannah Weimar family) who he loved dearly and remained close to throughout his life.
A private celebration of life will be held in Jacksonville on Saturday, August 3rd and a private graveside service at Bonaventure Cemetery in Savannah, Georgia will be held on Monday, August 5th.
