He is survived by his wife, Mary Alice Wesseling, who will finally have control of the TV remote and no longer be forced to watch sports, Walker, Texas Ranger reruns and Fox News. He is also survived by Everdina Clark, one of his four sisters. His son Arend and wife Nicole will miss their official Thanksgiving Turkey Carver. He adored his granddaughters Laken and Ansleigh. He equally adored the family four-legged fur ball, Suki. During his last two years, he would often answer, “of course I know my beautiful granddaughters! That’s Ansleigh and that’s Suki”.
Big Bill attended the University of Florida and Jacksonville University. He made a living as an insurance agent and served 30 years in the Florida Army National Guard. Bill was an active member of Riverside Baptist Church for most of his life. He served the church as a deacon and was married there. Big Bill’s favorite activities were golfing (or shanking it) with friends and going out to eat with Mary Alice. Bill was a man of routine even after retirement. Every morning he drank copious amounts of coffee that Mary would brew and pour for him, worked out before day break at the YMCA (in the basement where they kept all the “old man” equipment), reading the TU and playing Sudoku, Word Jumble and the Crossword puzzles. Bill was also a huge fan of the Atlanta Braves, Jaguars and the University of Florida’s football, basketball and baseball teams. To Bill his family was everything and he will be greatly missed. He will live on in peace with the Lord, and funny stories shared by his family. Thank you to the McGraw Hospice for providing Bill with dignity and serenity.
Services honoring Bill will be held 2:00pm on Friday, June 1, 2018 at Hardage-Giddens Oaklawn Chapel, 4801 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville with a visitation starting at 1:30pm prior to the service. Interment will be in Oaklawn Cemetery.
