
Chamberlain Wheeler passed away at Glenmoor Life Care Community of St. John’s County, St. Augustine, Florida on 12 August 2013, aged 96. He was born on April 8, 1917 in Providence, R.I., the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Chauncey E. Wheeler. He was educated at Deerfield Academy and Amherst College and was Senior Vice President for Manufacturing at Coats & Clark Inc., where he was employed for 43 years. During WWII he served in the U.S. Navy on Motor Torpedo Boats in the South Pacific as a Lieutenant and Division Commander. He came to Ponte Vedra in 1981 from Upper Montclair, N.J. where he was active at the Montclair Golf Club, a Board Member of the Community Nurses Association, a Trustee of the Montclair Art Museum and the Slater Museum. He was a member of Adelphi Lodge 33, Palms Presbyterian Church, the U.S. Seniors Golf Association, The Ponte Vedra Inn and Club and past President of the Ponte Vedra Men’s Golf Association.
He is preceded by his wife of 55 years, Helen Harriette Spencer and survived by a son, William C. Wheeler Jr. of Palm Springs, CA., a daughter, Virginia B. Wheeler Davies and son-in law, Phillip I. Davies of London, England.
Burial will be private at Oaklawn Cemetery.
