Zetta Patterson Hamer

Zetta Patterson Hamer, 100, of Jacksonville, FL passed away May 3, 2021.

She was born September 8, 1920 in Alapaha, GA to the late Jacob Rowe and Alice Gray Rowe. After high school she moved to Jacksonville and went to work at John H Swisher Cigar Factory as a Packer. She met her future husband at work, Charles Patterson, and they were married for 58 years until his death in September 1999. She and Charles traveled extensively after retirement going to all US states with the exception of Alaska. Zetta was a member of Mandarin Baptist Church and going to church was one of her joys. She was a devoted Christian and thankful to God for the long and good life she enjoyed. In 2002 she met and married Joseph Hamer. She was taken in by all the Hamer’s which includes many children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joe died in May 2015.

She is survived by her son Lewis Patterson (Rita) and daughter Melanie Weinberg (Terry); grandchildren: Phillip Patterson (Joanna) of Palm Harbor, FL and Laura Ann Alder (Steve) of St. Augustine, FL; and great grandchildren Demetra Patterson, Iliana Patterson, Kristin Alder and Charles Alder.

Her funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Friday, May 7, 2021 at Mandarin Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Seagle officiating. Pallbearers include Phillip Patterson, Demetra Patterson, Steve and Laura Alder, Kristin Alder and Charles Alder. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Mandarin Baptist Church, 11244 San Jose Blvd., Jacksonville FL 32223.
