as a graduate student from mississippi at u va in the early 1970s, i was lucky to know the joy family ; i have just today heard of the sad circumstances surrounding austin's passing. it is apparent from what others have written that the irrepressible child i knew then grew into a wonderful man. my condolences to his parents, his wife, his children, and his other family and close friends. i am sorry i didn't know him as an adult.

Lovely Ali, one of the nicest people I have met and worked with, and with such a wonderful outlook on life... Writing to you, who are so good with words, my words fail me. You and your family are very much in my thoughts. I am so very sorry for the inexplicable pain that you are going through. I hope that the love of your friends, family, and Austin will help you through this so that one day you are able to think about him ... and smile.

Dear Ali, words can't express how sorry I am to hear the heartbreaking news about Austin. He was always so thoughtful, positive and supportive to anyone he encountered. In keeping with his name, he was a joy to be around. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your sweet family. Please let me know if we can help in any way.

I think of Austin’s big grin as he ran through the house with our daughter Beth yelling and screaming. He always addressed Charlie and Faye by their first names. Splashing in the Rappahanock with Beth. He made us laugh!!!! SPECIAL LOVE especially to CHARLIE and FAYE from Marsha and John
