Codie was the adorable, quiet and polite little boy next door. He grew into a kind and gentle young man. My most vivid memory of him is how he was with my little girl, Michaela, she was about 4 years his junior. He treated Michaela like his own little sister. I could let her go outside with him to play, knowing I did not have to worry about her as long as Codie was with her. Codie was shy, but when he opened up, he was an old soul, full of insight and generosity, and a friendly loving spirit. Codie had the sweetest smile! We (Geri and I and a few other girlfriends) used to tease Codie and Michaela that one day they would grow up and get married, lol. I secretly longed for this to actually come to be. Life happens and took us apart, as we moved out of town after 8 years of being neighbors and friends. But distance couldn't keep these kids apart. Michaela came to me one sad day and said to me she was reading Codie's facebook page, and to her stunned horror, it sounded as if Codie had died. We looked it up online, and sure enough, the worst was true. Going to his funeral was not the kind of reunion we wanted, we had visited a few times in the years after our move, but I wish we had done so much more. You never know when you are going to lose someone you truly love. Let's all make this a lesson in life to love more often, and don't lose someone before you get the chance to tell them how much they meant to you. I will always love you Codie.

I grew up in Modesto for about the first 9 years of my life. The one thing I remember most was my next door neighnors, especially Codie. He was my favorite person growing up. I remember going over everyday excited to see him after school. And almost everytime i came over he'd pretend he was sleeping and scare me when i got close. I also remember all the fun times he would play hide and seek with me and would go swimming, and also would print out pictures of south park characters he created on the computer paint app for me. I will never forget him and always love and cherish the amazing and loving friendship memories he gave my childhood growing up. I love you Codie and will continue to throughout my life, because when I think of my childhood. I think of you. Love Michaela 'Miki' Hancock

We thought of you with love today,
But that is nothing new.
We thought about you yesterday,
And the days before that too.
We think of you in silence.
We often speak your name.
Now all we have is memories,
And your picture in a frame.
Your memory is our keepsake,
With which we'll never part.
God has you in his keeping,
We have you in our heart.

As the holidays near and I think about those who will only be with us in spirit, I am reminded of how temporary this life is. it is so important to make sure that we treat each other with the love and compassion that we would show on the last day of someone's life, because it just might be. I think of Codie all the time and love and miss him like crazy. Until we met again xoxo

Codie I only knew you for a very short time. You would come pick up Travis from my house, when you could not find him. I knew you were a good man, making something out of your life. You left this world too soon. But you will never be forgotten, may you look down on your mother and bring her peace in her heart. R.I.P CODIE.

When Codie and Travis were little boys Geri used to bring them to my house and I called Codie Cookie Monster because he would go straight to my antique cookie jar to see if I had baked fresh chocolate chip cookies. He grew into a handsome strong young man and he is missed very much!
