I still think of Joel as Mr. Ehren. I've known him from the time I was a teenager until his death. Elaine was/is my closet friend/my "sister". He was a great man with a wicked sense of humor. He stood strong in his beliefs for the best possible education for children, and he loved his wife, Bette, so very much. He loved his children and grandchildren. He loved his family, even those "adopted" into his family, like myself. My favorite memories are of Bette & him coming for dinners, especially during Thanksgivings and Christmases. The jokes flew back and forth. The love showed. The last big family gathering was after Christmas 2017. Family. Laughter. Food. Love. And Joel. Tired. Happy. Knowing he is loved. He fell asleep at the gathering, surrounded by family.
