Bertha Marie Pate Hardin

Family will be receiving friends on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, from 4:30 until 6 p.m., at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home. Service will follow at 6 p.m., in the Kilgore-Green Chapel. Burial will be at Walker Memory Gardens. Tim Salors will officiate.

Marie served her county and her church well. She taught at Dora High School, Union Chapel and the majority of her career at Cordova High School, where she served as the librarian, counselor, and English teacher. She has served as the pianist at Mt Pisgah Baptist Church since she was 16 years old and was still active in that role. She loved to sing with the Sonshine singers as they traveled to various nursing homes around the county to provide singing and worship for their residents and staff. She also volunteered at Walker Baptist for many years. She will be greatly missed.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Vonnie Pate and her late husband, Everette Hardin; her parents, James Milton and Flora Woodley Otwell; sisters, Marthalene Aaron and Mary Lamurl Cordes; brother, Jimmy Dale Otwell and son-in-law, Mickey Beaty.

She is survived by her children, Vonda Marie Pate Beaty and Phillip Vonnie Pate; grandchildren, Anna Sides Dawkins (Ricky), Adam Sides (Kara), Dustin Beaty (Shannon), Saige Beaty (Meagan); great grandchildren, Bryson Dawkins, Adelyn Dawkins, Rylan Sides, Rhett Sides, Maci Beaty, Jon Bryant Beaty, Hunter Poe, Brynlee Beaty, Dax Beaty; brothers, Milton O’dean Otwell and Elton Hughdon Otwell and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
