Carolyn Sue Kimbrell was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on September 5th, 2026. She passed away peacefully at her home at 83 years old. She was born July 16th, 1943 to Carl and Mary Lee Kilgore. She grew up in Jasper, alongside her best friend - her little sister, Gail. She graduated from Walker County High School, where she met and fell in love with her husband of 57 years, Floyd Kimbrell. They married in 1964 and had one son together. She cherished the roles of daughter, sister, wife, mother and grandmother, giving her family a lifetime of love and devotion.
She was a dedicated Christian and a life-long, faithful member of Hunter's Chapel Holy Church of Christ. She loved taking part in the women's ministry and taught several years at the church's vacation bible school. In 2003, she retired from Birmingham Southern College after many years as a financial aid administrator.
Carolyn was four foot eleven of sweetness, sass and just enough spice to keep you on your toes. She was a true Southern lady full of grace with a generous heart. She absolutely adored her Shadow Wood family who lived up and down her road. She found joy in shelling peas from her garden, picking fresh hydrangeas to craft beautiful bouquets, cooking for family-filled holidays, and front porch sitting with her sister, sipping a French vanilla cappuccino. Her favorite memories included shopping trips with her girlfriends, yearly trips to the beach and mountains, many mornings at Jack's with the "breakfast crew", hosting spend-the-night parties with her granddaughters, and decorating every year for Christmas. While she loved being here surrounded by her family, she is now at peace and rejoicing in heaven with Jesus and those that have gone on before her.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Carl and Mary Lee Kilgore; husband, Floyd Kimbrell; sister, Gail Kendrick; and father and mother-in-law, Fred and Sissie Kimbrell.
Carolyn leaves behind son, Carl Mitchell Kimbrell, and daughter-in-law, Carla Kimbrell; two beloved granddaughters, Ryan Kimbrell and Alex Guidry (Austin); brother-in-law, John Kimbrell (Carolyn); sister-in-law, Glenda Kimbrell; brother-in-law, Dennis Kendrick (Brenda); a host of nieces and nephews, including Andrea Taylor {Paul) and Chad Kendrick (Michelle); great nieces, Madison Taylor, Hunter and Lily Keever Kendrick and great nephew, Shep Kendrick; and sweet friend, Ann Kilgore.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 9th, 2026 at Hunter's Chapel Holy Church of Christ. Family would love for visitors to wear bright and fun colors to honor Carolyn. Visitation will begin at 1:00, followed by a funeral service at 2:00. Pastor Darrin Reynolds and Sam Cain will officiate. There will be a private burial following the funeral for family at Hunter's Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Austin Guidry, Jeff Smith, Paul Taylor, Chad Kendrick, Shep Kendrick and Jeff McAdams; Dennis Kendrick and Barry Hold brooks will serve as honorary pallbearers.
