
Charles Wayne King, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on Sunday, Feb. 2, 2025, at the age of 84. He was born on Nov. 18, 1940, in Jasper, Alabama.
Family will be receiving friends on Thursday, Feb. 6, 2025, from 10 a.m. until 12 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Pelham, with Kilgore-Green Funeral Home directing. Burial will be at Alabama National Cemetery of Montevallo on Friday, Feb. 7, 2025, at 10:15 a.m. Daven Watkins will officiate.
Wayne was married for 55 years to his cherished wife, Barbara Joan Richardson King, who preceded him in death in 2017. He is survived by his two children, Tinya Wetzel (and husband Don Wetzel) of Birmingham, Alabama, and Tony King (and wife Karen King) of Dothan, along with 12 loving grandchildren: Adam King of Birmingham; Lauren and Jonathan Anderson of Franklin, Tenn.; Eli and Anna King of Fairhope; Isaac and Lindsey King of Boston, Mass.; Cade Wetzel of Nashville, Tenn.; Colby Wetzel of Birmingham; Noah King of Bethesda, Md.; Micah and Catherine King of Dothan; ChapelAnn Wetzel of Birmingham; Samuel King of Dothan; Benjamin King of Dothan; and Hannah King of Dothan. Wayne also leaves behind four great-grandchildren: Jupiter King, Logan Anderson, Hudson Anderson and Wyatt King.
Wayne proudly served in the United States Air Force for 20 years, during which time he and Joan traveled extensively and made homes in Florida, Texas, Japan, California and Mississippi before settling back in Alabama upon his retirement. His military service was marked by dedication and a deep sense of duty.
An unwavering follower of Christ, Wayne was known by all for his commitment to sharing the gospel and trusting in the Lord’s plan. He found great joy in woodworking and spent much of his time crafting beautiful pieces and serving others through his talents.
Wayne will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who loved the Lord fiercely. He lived a life dedicated to the glorification of God through Jesus, and his legacy of faith, love and service will continue to inspire all who knew him.
He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who had the privilege of knowing him. We celebrate his life and take comfort in the knowledge that he is now reunited with his Savior, and his beloved Joan.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church of Pelham in Wayne's memory.
