

Cindy Joy Book was born on August 10, 1953, in Big Spring, Texas, to Ted and Edetha Joy Whitaker. She passed away peacefully in her sleep on the morning of January 3, 2026, in Jasper, Alabama, at the age of 72.
Cindy was the beloved mother of three daughters: Amy Barrett (husband Thane; sons Jaron and Kasen), Lindsey Wilson (husband Whit; daughter Lilah and son Asher), and Lauren Book (daughters Lyvia and Madilyn; son Zade). She was a devoted and proud grandmother who found her greatest joy in spending time with her grandchildren.
She was the oldest of four siblings and was preceded in death by her three brothers. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Ted Whitaker, a Lieutenant Colonel who served in the United States military, and Edetha Joy Whitaker (née Anderson).
Amy lovingly supported and cared for Cindy while she lived in Denver. In March 2025, Cindy moved to Jasper to be closer to Lindsey and her family, where she was surrounded by their love and support. In her final months in Jasper, she was also cared for by Bob, her former husband.
Cindy cherished time with her grandchildren, delighted in watching birds, and enjoyed decorating her home and creating a welcoming space for family gatherings. Above all, she will be remembered for her devotion to her family and the warmth she brought into their lives.
