Doris Ann Pounds

Family will be receiving friends on Saturday, March 19, 2022, from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., at Cordova Church of Christ, with Kilgore-Green funeral Home directing. Service will follow at 2 p.m., at Cordova Church of Christ. Burial will be at Oakhill Cemetery. William Tittle will officiate.

Born in Cordova on April 4, 1944, she lived her life there with her family until she met the love of her life, James Kenneth Pounds. Together they had two daughters, Dena Jo Pounds and Donna Lynn (Pounds) Burkes. She obtained her B.S. and Master’s Degree in Elementary Education at the University of Alabama and taught grades first and third for 30 years at Cordova Elementary, until she retired.

Doris had many hobbies and activities that she loved. She taught jazzercise, enjoyed waterskiing, hiking in the Bankhead National Forest, horseback riding on her black stallion, Raven, and traveling through 49 states and multiple countries with her husband. The hobby she enjoyed the most was giving back to her community by volunteering her time by bringing Christmas joy to different organizations and people by playing Santa and Mrs. Claus with her husband. She was a devout Christian where she attended church at Cordova Church of Christ and loved her church family dearly. She spent the later years of her life being able to be help care for great-granddaughters and that was what fulfilled her heart.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James Kenneth Pounds; parents, John L. Evans and Rosella Poe Evans; and sister, Dorothea E. Langley.

She is survived by her daughters, Dena Jo Pounds and Donna Lynn Burkes (Dave); grandchildren, William Andrew McBee III (Ashley Briana), Lacy Rose McBee Dixon, Jade Kenneth McBee, and Jamelyn Deanna Pounds; great-granddaughters, Kali Rose Dixon, Amelia Paige McBee, and Audrey Grace McBee; and sister, Lynda E. Baughn .

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Cordova Church of Christ.

Pallbearers are William McBee, Jade McBee, Tony Dixon, Steve Heathcock, Wesley Sandlin, and Issac Bagwell.
