Family will be receiving friends Thursday, November 14, 2019, from noon until 2 p.m. at Jasper First United Methodist Church. Service will follow at 2 p.m. at Jasper First United Methodist Church, with Kilgore- Green Funeral directing. Burial will follow at Walker Memory Gardens.
Richardson was born on May 24, 1933, to Troy and Lilla Richardson in Jasper, the fourth of ten children. In 1951, Ed began his professional baseball career in Panama City, Fla.. After being drafted in 1953 into the Army and spending two years in Korea, he continued his baseball career, playing for a number of cities including Shreveport, La., St Paul, Minn., Little Rock, Ark., Victoria, Texas, Macon, Ga., and finally the Durham Bulls in North Carolina.
In 1962, he moved back to Alabama where he and his wife, Bobbie, would raise their two children and spend the rest of their years together. Ed retired from a long career at Allstate and spent most of his retirement fishing with Bobbie on the Alabama River and traveling to Birmingham or Jacksonville, FL to visit children and grandchildren. Ed was a longtime member of Jasper First United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Troy and Lilla Richardson; siblings, Yvonne Richardson, Chris Scogin Snook, and James “Bud” Richardson.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Bobbie J. Richardson; children, Carol R. Johnson (Gary) and Mark E. Richardson (Debbie); grandchildren, Jenny Strickland (Dustin), Matt Johnson (Betsy), Laura Johnson, Anna Claire Johnson and Mckenzie Richardson; siblings, Kathleen Anderson, Barbara Brown (Lawrence), Doug Richardson, (Barbara), Pat Hyche (Gene), Paula Wall (Ben) and Wanda Wolfe (Mike); five great-grandsons and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
