Estal was preceded in death by his parents, John William Pate and Myrtle Dodson Pate; sisters, Marjorie Handley, Audrey Alexander; and brothers, Aaron Pate, Bob Pate, Marlin Pate, Eugene Pate and Jerry Pate.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Lou Pate, with whom he shared a long and happy marriage since Dec. 22, 1954 (70 years). Estal is the cherished Dad of his son, Jeffrey Estal Pate, and daughter, Cathy Burdette Pate, as well as two sisters, Barbara Johnston and Sheryl Wakefield, and a sister-in-law, Ruth Patilla. He was the special uncle to several nieces and nephews.
Family and his home were most important to Dad. He lovingly cared for his wife, Mary, for years following a debilitating medical issue and always worked to have a gorgeous yard and garden. Dad could grow extremely delicious tomatoes! He excelled in team sports during his school years and loved playing basketball. For many years he was a season ticket holder and enjoyed following the Auburn Tigers. You could say he was obsessed with Auburn Tiger Football and all conversations with Dad always included discussions about Auburn.
The family would like to thank the medical team at Walker Hospital (Emergency Room and Second Floor Ortho) for their professional care and concern. Also we would like to thank Brother Don Graham and the pastoral staff at Eastside Baptist Church.
