Faye Williams Burgett, a businesswoman, and lifelong resident of Walker County, Alabama, changed her address on October 27, 2022. Her new home is now HEAVEN! Faye Burgett passed from this life to her heavenly home while at Grandview Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama, after an unexpected drug reaction to chemotherapy.
Faye was born on June 25, 1935, to her parents Lacy Sylvester Williams and Hatti Mae Williams who have predeceased her.
Faye Burgett was tenacious when facing life’s difficulties. She was a three-time cancer survivor and instilled in her children that you face life’s storms with tenacity, and the fortitude to survive and remain strong committed to the overcoming life’s obstacles.
Faye Burgett taught her children to reinvent themselves with the changes in life, and to pursue an education. Late in life, she started a consignment business in Curry, Alabama named Bloomingdale’s, which thrived for more than twenty years. During that time, she met a host of friends. She closed the business in 2021 after the building was sold to a new owner.
Faye Burgett worked for several years on the night shift, at Arrow shirt factory, to support her children. She would arise early to make certain her children had breakfast and were off to school on time. Faye Burgett instilled in her children a strong work ethic and believed that everyone should work.
Faye was a believer in justice and equality. She hated poverty and injustice. Her children’s favorite story to tell is what they call the “picket line story.” She started a picket line at Arrow Shirt Factory with twenty years of service, after being terminated because she had to be off work with one of her children for sickness. Arrow had a policy in place and her situation with her sick child violated that policy. Faye was so well liked by her co-workers that they joined the picket line. Arrow plant was shut down! The injustice facing Faye Burgett was she would be terminated by Arrow and hired back at entry level losing her twenty years’ service. She stayed the course, kept up the picket line and the result, was her employment was reinstated, the policy was changed, and her demands were met after she personally negotiated with lawyers from New York.
Faye was married to Thomas Elton Burgett who predeceased her in death. Out of their union, six children were born: Johnna Baker, (Dr.S. Fillingane), Patti Rush (Charles Rush), Glenn Burgett (Pam Burgett), Thomas Burgett (Tina A. Burgett), Tony Burgett (Tina Renae’ Burgett) and Timothy Burgett.
Faye was blessed with a host of grandchildren: Zhon Wood (Ashley Wood), Chase Baker, Charles Edward Rush, John Grant, Christopher Cody Rush, Makenzie Faith Brown (J.T, Brown), Cole Macoy Burgett, Ralee Burgett and Laynee Kate. Her great grandchildren are Tristan Wood, Mason Brown, and Troop Brown.
Family and friends are invited to a graveside service, which will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2022, at Mt. Zion Cemetery on Fall City Road at 2:00 pm. After the service, family and friends are welcomed to gather at Tony and Tina Burgett’s home located on Fall City Road.
