Gail Graduated from Curry High School and then attended Walker College. She Married Leonard L. Roberts “Buddy” II, the love of her life, after which they moved to Tuscaloosa, where both graduated from the University of Alabama. They began their careers in Memphis, Tennessee, and later moved to Fairfax, Alabama. They then returned home with their small son, Robin, to the farm near Jasper, where Gail grew up. Back in Jasper, Gail resumed her teaching career at Maddox Middle School.
Teaching was her calling and altogether she devoted twenty-eight years to helping students learn and succeed. She had chosen the field of science and thrived on making science come alive for her students. During her tenure as a teacher, she commanded the respect of students, teachers and administrators.
Being back on the farm, Gail was in her element. She loved the beautiful pasture land, the animals, the pond, the vineyards, and the garden spot on their property. She was once again an outdoors girl, who delighted in vegetable gardening and planting flowers. This was always her primary place of enjoyment, serenity, and family time.
A woman of many talents, Gail spent several years going to arts and crafts shows, where her artistic wares were well-received. As always, Buddy was by her side, assisting her with her displays. Her community will remember vividly how she actively supported the annual Philadelphia Baptist Church Beast Feast by supplying her homemade squirrel dumplings and fried pies. Another of her creative pursuits was shopping for antiques and meticulously locating old farm items that would end up being prized Christmas gifts for her son.
Gail will be remembered as a determined, hard-working, creative lady with a winning personality. She was a woman of faith and never hesitated to make that known. She will be greatly missed.
