
A graveside service will be held at Patton Hill Cemetery in Oakman, Saturday, November 8, 2025, at 2 p.m., directed by Kilgore-Green Funeral Home. Rev. Ronald Schultz will officiate.
Wayne was born on July 3, 1945, in Oakman, Alabama, he lived a life filled with music, family and faith. Wayne was one of ten children, blessed with five sisters and four brothers, and he cherished his family deeply. He graduated from Sylvania High School, where he proudly served as Drum Major of the band—a role that showcased his early passion for music. After high school, Wayne attended Snead Junior College. When his family relocated to Walker County, he continued his education at Walker Junior College before transferring to Samford University, where he studied music. Wayne had a natural gift for both piano and singing.
He was the longtime owner of Thelma’s Florist in Jasper, Alabama, where his creativity and kindness touched countless customers. His love for music never waned—he founded and managed the gospel quartet The Tennesseans, traveling widely and sharing faith through song. Wayne later moved to Hoover, where he built a successful flooring business and worked diligently until his retirement.
Wayne will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his musical talent, his work ethic, and his deep love for family and friends. His life was a song of love and laughter, and his melody will continue in the hearts of all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Reverend Grady Woods and Mamie Woods; brothers: Arnold Woods, Leland Woods (Simmie), Charles Woods, Kelly Woods, Perrine Jones, Ruby Schultz and Doris Ensor.
He is survived by his sisters, Brenda Hutchens (Wallace) and Judy Clements (Paul) and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
