Jerry Michael Hughes

Jerry Hughes, 80, of Townley, passed away July 22, 2025, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama.

Jerry was born in Walker County and was a 1963 graduate of Carbon Hill High School. He married Martha Holcomb of Carbon Hill, Alabama in March of 1969. Mr. Hughes worked 43 years for South Central Bell / AT&T, retiring in May of 2008. After retirement, he enjoyed hunting and fishing with friends, gardening and spending time with his three grandchildren and great granddaughter.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 10:00 am - 11:30 am at the Carbon Hill Church of God of Prophecy with the service to begin at 11:30 am. Burial will be at Pocahontas Baptist Church Cemetery. There will be no graveside service. Reverend John Billy Butler will officiate.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Thomas and Lorene Randolph Hughes; and brother, Joe Neil Hughes.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Holcomb Hughes; children, Gina Gillott (Eddie Gottwald) and Geri Manasco (John); grandchildren, Carly Gillott Newson (Tyler), Will Manasco and Tyler Manasco; and great-grandchild, Ella Grace Newson.

Pallbearers will be Danny Savage, Shane McGough, Brooks Holcomb, Michael Holcomb, Kenneth Holcomb and Phillip Holcomb.
