Mary Jean (Jeanne) Graydon, of Double Springs, Alabama, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. Born in Montgomery, Alabama on November 2, 1960, Jeanne lost her five-month battle with pancreatic cancer on October 25, 2025.
After graduating from Auburn University-Montgomery with a degree in elementary education, Jeanne taught first graders at Dalraida Elementary in Montgomery. A sabbatical from teaching allowed her time to become a stay-at-home mom during her children’s formative years. Later, she regulated day care facilities in Montgomery, and then in Warner Robins, Georgia. This was more than a job to her, saying “someone has to advocate for those that cannot speak for themselves – I consider this a calling.” Later in life, she married Tim Graydon and began enjoying retirement. Jeanne and Tim were able to travel together while he continued to work, visiting places such as the Grand Canyon and Yosemite, among other places. God gave Jeanne the gift of a few more months after her terminal diagnosis, and she and Tim were able to check off a few bucket list trips – Maine, the Florida beach (one more time), and a few other places dear to her. Tim will be left with joyous memories from these final trips.
The family would like to offer our heartfelt thanks to the caregivers at Alabama Hospice: Hillary, Penny, and Brittany for their compassionate care, and Dr. Steven Hwang and his nurse, Liza.
We will all miss her ever constant smile.
A celebration of life gathering will be announced at a later date.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Ann and Aris Long; and her first husband, Jim Renfroe.
She is survived by her husband, Tim Graydon; her children, Heather Johnson (Franklin), Meredith Metscher (Trevor), Miriam Huskey (Steve), Kyle Renfroe and Andy Graydon (Mary Reading); grandchildren, Harper Johnson, Trey Johnson, Ari Johnson, Isla Metscher, Emmitt Huskey and Miriam Graydon; and her siblings, Suzanne Long and David Long.
