
Leroy Anthony, 83, of Jasper passed away Thursday, September 25, at his home. A memorial service will be held at First Baptist Church of Jasper on Monday, September 29, at 11:00 a.m. All family and friends are invited to an informal time of visitation at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home Sunday, September 28, 4:00-6:00 p.m. Burial to be at Walker Memory Gardens. Officiating will be Conrad Howell, Delmus Anthony, and Dennis Culbreth. Leroy was born in Marvel, Alabama, on January 22, 1931. He attended Montevallo High School and Samford University, and received his Master's degree from the University of Montevallo. He was a bi-vocational pastor/teacher who moved his family to Walker County in 1969 to pastor Central Baptist Church and teach at Oakman High School. He retired from teaching in 1985 and moved to Jasper. Since then, he has served as Pastor at Townley Baptist Church and Mt. Joy Baptist Church, and has served as Interim Pastor at several churches in Walker County. Leroy loved the Lord and dedicated his life to serving Him. He was much loved by many people in this area and throughout Alabama. Leroy was preceded in death by his father, Moman L. Anthony, Sr., and mother, Myrtle Russell Anthony. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Martha Askins Anthony; sons, Lee Anthony (Jenni), Larry Anthony (Ron Mueller), and Scott Anthony; daughter, Lynne Madison Beard (Craig); 13 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; brothers, Delmus Anthony (Tommie), Russell Anthony (Gwen); sisters, Frances Anthony, Geraldine Hicks (Don), June Hadaway (Roy), and Charlotte Patrick. He is also survived by his second family of brothers and sisters (the Askins family) and a host of nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be Bradley Madison, Adam Madison, Eric Madison, Robert Anthony, Dakota Anthony, William Askins and Frank Askins. Honorary pallbearers will be Doug Booth, Bill Doss, Ed McElroy, Fred Nichols, Charles Sanders, and Jim Smith. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to First Baptist Church of Jasper, Gentiva Hospice, or a charity of choice. The family would like to express special thanks to Dr. Judson Smith, Dr. Larry Baker, Dr. Joelle Hamilton, Dr. Luis Davila, and Gentiva Hospice Staff, especially nurse Karla Chambless.
