Patsy was a 1950 graduate of Walker High School. She was married for 48 years to her husband, Jack Moore Brown, former mayor of Jasper. For many years, she was the owner of Readiness Kindergarten and taught hundreds of students who have fond memories of “Mrs. Patsy.” Also, she was a preschool/nursery school and Sunday school teacher at First Baptist Church for over 25 years. She loved playing bridge with her group of friends for over 60 years. She also enjoyed golf and traveling with the JOY group from her church. She was a tremendous supporter of all things associated with Auburn University and a “Dye-Hard” Auburn football fan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Moore Brown, and her parents, E.K and Pat Barnes.
She is survived by her two daughters, Marie Welsh (John) of Weatherford, Texas, and Jenny Short (Mike) of Jasper; grandchildren, Rebekah Stoltenow (Nate), Brad Welsh (Kelly), Colby Welsh (Allyssa), Abby Price, Chesley Price, Molly Welsh, Will Short; brother, Frank Barnes and his wife Jan, who was like a sister to her; sister-in-law Virginia Brown; beloved cousin Millie Jacobs (John); numerous nieces and nephews and six great-grandchildren. They have many cherished memories from their travels around the world with their “Grannie Pat/Pap.”
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude and thanks to Patsy’s caregivers who lovingly, compassionately, and diligently provided her care: Bonita Trotter, Barbara Hogan, and Jan Barnes. A special thanks to Shauna, Betty, and Lee Lee of Alabama Hospice Care as well.
The family requests in lieu of flowers that donations be made to the Walker Area Community Foundation at 611 8th Ave., Jasper, AL 35501.
