Phillip was born on August 8, 1959 to William “Bus” Eads and Melba Faye Eads in Jasper, AL. After Phillip graduated from Carbon Hill High School in 1977, he graduated from Auburn University in 1981 with a degree in accounting, and went on to get his CPA license. Phillip spent over forty years providing accounting and tax services around the Jasper, Birmingham, and Huntsville areas.
Phillip was a hard worker. Most days, he would go directly from his day job to his “night job” of feeding cows and taking care of things around the farm. Phillip also enjoyed hiking, and spent the past two summers hiking over 200 miles on the Appalachian Trail with his son Blaine. Phillip planned to hike the entire 2,190 mile trail from Georgia to Maine. An avid Auburn fan, Phillip enjoyed tailgating and cheering on the Tigers.
Phillip was a devoted husband and father, always putting his family first. When they were younger, he would never miss his children’s volleyball or baseball games, and he was always there to provide career and life advice once they were grown, whether solicited or not. Phillip held many titles in his life, from accountant to cattle farmer but his favorite role was being a Bop Bop to his three grandchildren, Sutton, Willow, and Sloan. He enjoyed sharing his love of sweets with them, especially ice cream and circus peanuts.
Phillip was preceded in death by his parents, William “Bus” Eads and Melba Faye Eads, his older sister Brenda Tucker, his grandparents Elzie Merchant, Lela Merchant, Paul Eads, and Fannie Eads, and his father-in-law Lendon “Dagwood” Smothers.
He is survived by his loving wife of over forty years, Sonya Eads, his daughter Morgan Eads (Eric), his son Blaine Eads (Kodi), his grandchildren Sutton Eads, Willow Anders, and Sloan Eads, his three sisters: Linda Eads, Delores Roberson, and Nenia Cagle (Curt), his brother-in-law Donald Tucker, his mother-in-law Doris Smothers, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be at 5pm on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, followed by a brief service in celebration of Phillip’s life at 7pm at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 10am on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at Kelley Cemetery in Eldridge, AL.
