

Stephen Aaron Brakefield, beloved son, brother, and friend, departed from this world on Thursday, February 29, 2024, at his residence in Jasper, at the age of 40. His presence graced the lives of many, leaving a profound impact on those who knew him.
Aaron graduated from Carbon Hill High School in 2002. He embarked on a journey of learning, earning an Associate Degree from Bevill State Community College before achieving both his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from the University of Alabama. Aaron dedicated his professional life to serving others as a Speech Language Pathologist, where he touched the hearts of countless patients in various nursing homes across the area. His compassion and dedication were evident in the genuine connections he formed with those under his care.
Aaron was a remarkably talented musician, especially his ability to play the guitar and sing. He used this talent to help pay his way through college. His love for music not only enriched his own life but brought joy to all those fortunate enough to listen. With a quick wit, Aaron had a knack for storytelling and humor, he would have you in stitches.
Aaron is preceded in death by his father, Steve Brakefield, his paternal grandparents, Carl and Ida Lou Brakefield, his maternal grandfather, James Dobbins, his uncle, Carl Camp Brakefield, and his cousin, Tammy Sandlin. He leaves behind a legacy of love and memories cherished by his devoted mother, Donna Dobbins Brakefield of Jasper; his sister, Malarie Brakefield of Birmingham; his maternal grandmother, Sue Dobbins of Carbon Hill; and his loving aunts and uncles – Dennis and Libby Dobbins of Winfield, Tina and Dale Pair of Carbon Hill, and Thomas and Laura Dobbins of Panama City, Florida. Additionally, Aaron is survived by numerous cousins, great uncles, and great aunts.
Family will receive friends at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home in Jasper, with visitation scheduled for Monday, March 4, 2024, from 10:00-11:00 a.m., followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Honored pallbearers will be John Cain, Jay Dobbins, James Pair, Justin Pair, Josh Swindle, and Josh Tucker.
