As a veteran of the United States Army, Turner was active duty from 1959 for five years, then transitioned to the United States Army Reserve until 1982. He served his country with honor and integrity. Turner loved his country, his family and he loved the Lord.
Turner was an avid hunter and brought home many trophies from his hunting trips.
Turner is survived by granddaughter, Kaila Heaston Edlin; siblings, Burnadine Meadows, Rose Wood, Mary Farley, Lois Ayers, Roger Wood, Margie Hatfield, Evelyn Todhunter, Eddie Wood and Michael Wood; step-sons, Michael Rogers, Mark Rogers and James Rogers; and a slew of nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and step-great grandchildren. Turner was well loved to say the least.
Turner was preceded in death by his parents, Golden Wood and Hulda Wood; his bride of 12 years, Carol Ann Wood; daughters, Pamela Delies Wood and Amanda Beth Wood; siblings, Ballard Wood, Wanda Wood, Clay Wood, James Wood and Danny Wood and step-daughter, Christy Jennings.
Family will be receiving friends at Republic Missionary Baptist Church on Thursday, August 6, 2026, from 10 am to 11 am, directed by Kilgore-Green Funeral Home, with the funeral beginning at 11 am. The burial will follow at Andrew’s Chapel Cemetery, Cottondale, AL, at 1:30 pm. Brother Guy Moore will officiate.
