George E. Handford, 84, of Mather, went to be with his Lord and Savior with his family by his side Saturday, December 25, 2021. He spent Christmas day with his earthly family and Christmas evening with his heavenly family. Surviving is his sister Barb Metts (Ken) of Cleveland, OH; daughter Marsha Peterman (Rick) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; daughter Tammy Marva (Dan) of Uniontown, PA; son Douglas Handford (Sharon) of Harrisburg, PA; daughter Valerie Simeon (Wayne) of Hubbard, OH; special nephew David Ray (Pam) of Clarksville, PA; also 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
Preceding him in death is his wife Thelma Handford; father Raymond Handford; mother Lucille Rogers; brother Jimmy Handford and a grandson Jason Burnfield.
George retired from Morgan Township, where he worked “for the people” serving as a Township Supervisor for 36 years. He also worked at Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, Cohen Oil Company and Anchor Hocking. He was an active member of the Eastern Star Chapter 404, Masonic Lodge, Mather Christian Church and Pitt Gas Missionary Church. He volunteered at Washington Health System Greene Hospital. George was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He never met a stranger because he loved talking to people and also loved driving truck. George enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Some of his favorite pastimes was playing with his trains, feeding the birds and deer.
In following guidelines of wearing masks, friends will be received on Monday, January 3, 2022 from 11:00am to 12:00pm, the time of a Celebration of Life service, in the Behm Funeral Home, 1477 Jefferson Rd., Jefferson, PA 15344, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, with the Rev. Ken Jones officiating. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg. After the service a reception with refreshments will be held at the Mather Christian Church.
