

He was born August 1, 1922 on Brown’s Run, in Morgan Township, a son of the late Foster and Belle Bowen Pyle.
He was a 1941 graduate of Jefferson High School.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army in France and Germany.
His first wife, Dorothy Nevling Pyle died on March 13, 1988. On September 25, 1993, he married Freda Bise Pyle, who survives.
Mr. Pyle was a farmer all of his life. He also worked for Equitable Gas Company at the Pratt Compressor Station for 29 years, as a PennDot supervisor for 4 years, and for a few years at Mather Mine.
Mr. Pyle was a member of the Jefferson United Methodist Church for over 60 years where he had served on the board of trustees. He was a member of American Legion Post 954 in Jefferson and the Jefferson Senior Citizens. He was a meals on wheels volunteer for many years and was active in the Greene County Church Dart Ball League. Mr. Pyle loved to travel and had visited all 50 states and Europe.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two daughters, Lynda Smith (Skip) and Kristine (David) Knepp, all of Jefferson; 3 grandchildren, Jason Knepp of Florida, Amber Ivanusic of Waynesburg, and Dr. Tracy Covarrubias of Austin, TX; 3 great-grandchildren, Gracie and Max Ivanusic, and Christopher Knepp; a stepdaughter, Mary Lou Rudolph (Hap) of Jefferson; two stepsons, Ernest R. Grimes (Connie) of Waynesburg and Thomas L. Riggle of Jefferson; and several step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Deceased are a grandson, Michael Smith; 4 sisters, Ethel Welling, Hazel Burnfield, Marie Filbey, and Iva Johnson; and one brother Robert Pyle, who died in infancy.
