Gertrude E. Busti

She never met a stranger

After a long and full life of challenges and rewards, Gertrude Erika Busti, 98, died April 2, 2018. Born on December 2, 1919, in Henriettenhof, Germany, she immigrated to the United States with her parents Hermann and Emma Wolff when she was 5 years old. Gertie, as she was known to most people, met her late husband of 61 years, Pete, in Serbiantown. They raised their children in Crucible where she resided her entire life. Gertie was the last of her immediate family, preceded in death by brothers Hans, Leo, and Tom Wolff and sisters Meta Stacy, Helen King, and Ruth Blaker. In addition to being a homemaker, Gertie worked a variety of jobs outside the home, including with the Greene County Courts, Davis Giant Market in Dry Tavern, and restaurant management in Miami, Florida. For many years she was a per capita tax assessor for Cumberland Township and a member of the Greene County tax assessment appeals board into her nineties. Local politics was a special love of hers and she was re-elected numerous times as a precinct committeewoman for Cumberland Township 2. Known for her intellect, warm sense of humor, and outspokenness, she was an inspiration to many and genuinely interested in the well-being of everyone she encountered, particularly young people. Left to cherish her memory are son Pete Busti Jr.; daughter Sharon Willison; daughter-in-law Joyce Busti; son-in-law Bob Willison; grandson Shayne and his wife Kristina Busti; granddaughter Shayleigh Busti; step granddaughter Robin Kime; great grandsons Grayson and Beckett Busti; step granddaughter Morgan Kime; and grand-dog Bella. At Gertie’s request there will be no viewing or service. The family respectfully requests no flowers or keepsakes. Arrangements are under the direction of the Behm Funeral Home in Jefferson PA.

Sharon, Pete and family, so sorry to hear of your mom's passing. Gertie will be remembered as one of a kind. She was always a friend to everyone. She was an interesting person to talk. She could tell you all about our hometown Crucible. She would tell stories of the good all days.
May she now rest in peace. She certainly deserves it. She had a life well lived.

I will remember Gertie for her kindness and her story telling! As a young girl and even as an adult whenever I would see her I always left laughing. She made a lot of us Crucible kids smile and feel good about ourselves! My thoughts and prayers go out to her family! May God give you strength and comfort.
