Born November 20, 1924, in East Bethlehem Township, Washington County, she was the daughter of the late James and Mable (Porter) Grable.
Helen lived a life marked by hard work, compassion, and care for others. During World War II, she assembled grenades in support of the war effort and later held sewing positions in local factories. In the late 1970s and through the 1980s, she found her true calling working as a florist at Carmichaels Flower Shop — a job she cherished.
Known for her health-conscious lifestyle, Helen was always ready with a home remedy or kind word for anyone in need. She loved gardening and bird watching, often tending to her many bird feeders with great joy. Family was at the center of her world, and she took great pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, sharing stories of the past and preserving family history.
Helen is survived by her son, David Neel of Carmichaels; granddaughter, Danielle Ellis of Carmichaels; 9 great-grandchildren; and her brothers, John and Jim Grable.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, William Neel; daughter, Carol Neel; grandsons, Ryan and Jamon Neel; and brothers Merle, Glen, and Joe Grable, as well as sisters Ida (Marie), Erma, Doris, Edith, and Delores.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to her niece Dorothy, Pat Gibson, and Becky Lesko for their loving care during the past year, and to Amedisys Hospice and Evergreen PCH for their support.
In accordance with Helen’s wishes, there will be no public viewing or graveside service. Interment will take place at Hewitts Presbyterian Cemetery in Rices Landing.
