On September 19, 2025, surrounded by the love of her family in Clarksville, Pennsylvania, our beloved matriarch, Icie Beulah Green, gently passed into the presence of the Lord at the remarkable age of 98. Born on June 4, 1927, in Clearwater, West Virginia, she was the cherished daughter of the late John (Hill) Green and Beulah (Penn) Woody-Green. Icie’s early years were spent in Triadelphia, West Virginia, before her family made their home in Clarksville, Pennsylvania. Education was always close to her heart. After obtaining her GED, Icie pursued her passion for teaching by attending California State College (now known as California University of Pennsylvania), where she proudly earned an Associate’s Degree in Preschool Education. She went on to dedicate her gifts as a preschool teacher for the Bethlehem Center School District, later continuing her career of care and service with a lengthy employment at Mayview State Hospital until her well-deserved retirement. Icie’s proudest role, however, was being a devoted mother. She faithfully raised her five children in Clarksville, creating a home filled with love, guidance, and the quiet strength of a woman who leaned on God. Spiritually, Icie’s life was deeply rooted in the church. She grew up as a member of the Church of the Living God under the leadership of Bishop Freeman Wilson, where she lovingly served as church secretary. Later, she joined St. John Bible Center (formerly St. John Baptist Church) in Lawrence, Pennsylvania, under the leadership of Pastor Melvin Wilson. At St. John, she gave herself faithfully as a trustee and a Church Mother, becoming a pillar of encouragement, wisdom, and prayer. In her retirement years, Icie embraced the simple joys of life that reflected her nurturing heart. She loved to cook and was well known for preparing meals that brought her family together. She delighted in supporting her grandchildren at their sporting events, cheering them on with pride. Her voice carried joy as she sang in the church choir, and her presence was always felt in the warmth she brought to those around her. Icie Beulah Green leaves behind a legacy of faith, service, and family that will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her.
Icie was preceded in death by her beloved siblings: Harrison Woody, Kermit Woody Jr., Howard Green, Edward Green, Phillip Green, Roxie Woody, Helen Ward, Mary Thomas, Virginia Abrams, Edna Clements, (Martha) Evelyn Miller, and Geraldine Wilson. Though their earthly journeys ended before hers, the bond of family love remained strong in her heart throughout her life. She is survived by her sister, Ruth Ann Bell of Cokeburg, PA who will forever treasure the memories of their time together and the blessing of having shared life’s journey with such a loving sister. Among Icie’s greatest joys were her children. She was the proud and loving mother of five; three of which are left to mourn her: Clark William Green (Agnes) of Anchorage, AK; Joseph Lewis Green, Sr. of Marianna, PA; and Stacy Rene’ Cox (Vernon) of Clarksville, PA. She was preceded in death by Dirk Allen Green and Stanley Edward Green. To each of them, she gave the priceless gifts of faith, guidance, and unconditional love. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she adored. She celebrated their milestones, cheered at their events, and offered them encouragement with every step of their journeys. Her grandchildren are as follows: Jonathan Clark Green, Adrian Allen Lewis, Alexandra M. Green, Cassandra L. Green, Juanita Morgan, Angel Desiree Green, Joseph “JJ” Lewis Green, Jr., and Markie Chanell Lewis. While two grandchildren, Avery Allan Lewis and Teresa Icie Green, preceded her in death, their memories remained alive in her heart. She was even blessed to share in the lives of her great-grandchildren, Rajhanae E. Hattfield, Xavier Elijah Green and Noah Franklin Pilot who carry forward her spirit of faith, resilience, and love, cherishing the example she set and the family bonds she worked so faithfully to preserve.
Scripture: "I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing." — 2 Timothy 4:7–8
