One of my favorite memories of my cousin Jane was when I was a little boy visiting my Grandma Ruth Sowden who lived on Second street. My older brother and cousins were always going and playing on the slate dump at the bottom of First Street, was sitting on the back steps at my grandmothers house crying because I was told I was too young to go. I was 6 or 7 which would have made Jane 14 or 15. She went to the corner store to get some cardboard from our Aunt Mary and took me and the cardboard up the slate dump where we happily slid down the slate on the cardboard until our Uncle Bill sowden caught us. He promised not to tell my mom or my Grandmother if jane and I would agree to go and clean out the garage where our cousin Debby kept her horse
