She was born March 3, 1949, in Waynesburg, a daughter of the late David K. Sowden Sr. and Mary Cottle Sowden.
Jean was a 1967 graduate of Jefferson-Morgan High School.
She worked as the Morgan Township Tax collector for more than 42 years. She had also worked at one time at the Giant Eagle in Waynesburg.
On December 1, 1967, she married Harvey A. Redman, who died July 26, 1995.
Surviving are two children, Jeffery Redman of Mather, and Martha Redman (Bryant) Gilliam of Pittsburgh; a grandson, Gavin Gilliam; and a brother, David K. Sowden Jr. of Pittsburgh.
