Louis “Weasel” Palone Sr., 93, of Dry Tavern, quietly passed away June 25 after a brief stay in Waynesburg Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. He was born in Serbiantown (Crucible PA) on December 18, 1924, the youngest of eight boys to Frank Palone Sr. and Louise Falgiani. He was the last of his immediate family.
Mr. Palone served in the US Army with the Third Infantry Division, 15th Infantry Regiment, 1st Battalion, during WWII with a heavy machine gun squad in Italy, Southern France, Germany and Central Europe, attaining the rank of sergeant. He received a purple heart for wounds he sustained near Cisterna, Italy during the Anzio campaign in the spring of 1944, and a second purple heart later in the war.
Prior to his retirement, Mr. Palone worked at Crucible Mine until it closed and then owned and operated the R&L Auto Body Shop in Dry Tavern. He enjoyed being outdoors, hunting, fishing and watching the Steelers. He loved animals.
Mr. Palone was a member of the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Rices Landing; the American Legion Post #816, Rices Landing; and the Military Order of the Purple Heart.
On April 17, 1948, he married Anna Violet Sagosky, who survives. They recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Palone is survived by three sons: Louis (Cathy) Palone Jr. of Waterford, CT, Vincent (Roxane) Palone of Kirby, and Carmen (Mary Brosovich) Palone of Mather, and three grandchildren, Lisa, Frank and Vincent Palone. He is also survived by his cat Rusty.
Mr. Palone was preceded in death by his brothers Marion Sr., Arthur, Samuel Sr., Fred, Frank, Raymond, and Quinty Palone.
Friends will be received from 2 to 8 pm on Friday in Behm Funeral Home, 1477 Jefferson Road, Jefferson, PA, 15344, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, where a blessing service will be held 10:30 am Saturday, June 30, 2018 with the Reverend Fr. John M. Bauer officiating. Interment will be held in Greene County Memorial Park, Jefferson Road, Waynesburg, with full military honors accorded by the American Legions Post #391 Fredericktown, Post #816 Rices Landing and the United States Army.
