I am Tom's son Jim. When I was 4 we were living in California (state). It was just before Christmas. Money was extremely tight at that time and there was none to spare for gifts. My father took me for a ride in the vehicle to a Good Will store where he purchased one outdoor roller skate (the metal kind with the key). I remember the attendant thinking that to be quite odd. We went from there to a produce yard where he was able to get a wooden orange crate, a couple small pieces of wood and a piece of wood 2x4 about 3 feet long. When we got back home he fastened the crate to the 2x4 on one end with length up and down. He put the 2 smaller pieces of wood on the top of the crate in a V shape to look like handles. He then took the skate apart and fastened one part to the bottom of the 2x4 under the crate (front) and the other part to the bottom rear. My father had just made me a homemade scooter, with my help of course. This was my Christmas gift that year. Since we had just moved to this house, Santa had not had time to figure out where we had moved to yet so there were no presents from him. I think that was definitely one of - if not the best, most meaningful, Christmas gifts that I have ever received. Thank you for that memory Father.

Bunny, sadden by your, our, loss.  He suffered long enough.  He was my oldest brother, 15 years difference.  I wish that our relationship was different as I am sure he would have shared much of when he and his brothers were growing up that I did not know.  I know it is not easy to lose a husband, as I am still grieving over the loss of my Jack.....six months now.  My deepest sympathy to you at this time.
