

He was born February 23, 1922 in Thompson #1, Fayette County, a son of the late Michael and Barbara Strichko Kovach.
Mr. Kovach was a 1941 graduate of Cumberland Township High School.
After high school he served in the United States Army during WW II, with the Signal Corp, Third Army, under the command of General Patton.
He was a member of Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, Rices Landing. He was a proud member of the UMWA and retired from the National Mine’s Isabella mine in 1983.
His hobbies were gardening, traveling and spending time with family and friends.
On October 11, 1947 he married Esther Bertugli, who survives.
Surviving in addition to his loving wife Esther, are a daughter, Virginia Montibeller and her husband Raymond of Rices Landing, two sons, Victor Kovach and his wife Pam of Santa Fe, NM, Mark Kovach and his wife Monique of Fairfax, VA; five grandsons, Michael Montibeller, Dr. Joseph Montibeller, David Montibeller, Dr. Ryan Kovach and Devin Kovach; two granddaughters, Marissa Kovach and Julianna Kovach; four step grandchildren, Ashley Dowd, Mitch Dowd, Jessica Dowd and Allyson Czarnaski; a sister, Elizabeth “Lizzy” Krepkovich of Aurora, OH; and several nieces and nephews.
Deceased are five brothers, Mike Kovach, John Kovach, Andy Kovach, Alec Kovach and George Kovach; four sisters, Julie Yesenosky, Helen Carmen, Irene Kovach and Mary Fahl.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday; and 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 pm Friday in the Behm Funeral Homes, Inc., 1477 Jefferson Rd., Jefferson, PA, Gregory P. Rohanna, supervisor, where a blessing service will be held on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at 9:30 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am in the Sacred Heart RC Church, Rices Landing, with Fr. John M. Bauer officiating. Interment will follow in Greene County Memorial Park, Waynesburg. A church prayer service will be held on Friday at 7:00 pm in the funeral home.
