Albert S. Balogh – August 8, 1925 to August 15, 2013

Al, a native of Detroit, Michigan, grew up in the Delray community, a Hungarian neighborhood where he made lifelong friends. He was a graduate of Southwestern High School in Detroit. In high school, he was an athlete and a scholar, who remembered his Shakespeare long after graduation and played baseball on the Detroit Police team for more than 20 years.

He met his lovely wife Jonell while working at Cadillac and married her in 1946 when he returned from the war. After retiring from a 25 year career in the Detroit Police Force, he moved with his wife to Eldorado, Illinois, to be near her parents. After making many friends in Eldorado, they moved to Florida in 1980 and became happy residents of Jensen Beach where they loved the companionship, sea and sunshine. He has been a friend to many Jensen Beach residents, who became a part of his extended family. He was a loyal friend to those who knew him well.

Al was a veteran of the Army Air Corps, having flow on combat missions in Europe and Africa. One of his greatest honors was his recent Honor Flight to Washington DC. He has been a lifelong member of the VFW and has been a long time member of the Jensen Beach Community Church. He also enjoyed many a game of golf in Martin County.

Al was a wonderful friend, husband, father and grandfather. He leaves behind his wife Jonell, his son Kent Balogh and wife Mary Jane of Lewiston, MI, his son Kim Balogh and daughter-in-law Gloria of Tavares, FL, his daughter Lynn Maarouf and son-in-law David Maarouf of Friendswood, TX and his four grandsons: Derik Balogh of Wayne, MI, Tadd Balogh of Pennsboro, WV, Brooks Balogh of Orlando, FL and Tyler Balogh of Orlando, FL.

Al brought laughter to many during his time and made friends with nearly everyone he met. His life was about responsibility, family, friends, hard work and love of country, but he always found time to enjoy a beer with the gang. He kept his youthful curiosity, love of life and sense of humor until his final days.

Thanks to all of you for the lovely cards. As a little girl I was a “Daddy's Girl” - and then growing up – I often referred to my father as a “Jewish Mother “ He was the one who pushed us to make better grades, go out and see the world – head to college, read more, etc. He was also the one who kept us laughing over the years, taught us to ride bikes, hike in the hills, swim, ice skate - the whole she-bang. He and my mother had been together for around 70 years so we have her tucked away in our guest room – and she is a great house guest. If you want to watch 70 years flash before your eyes click on the video link. The old picture with the guy with the handlebar moustache and the hippy young lady – are my father's parents who were at that time recent immigrants from Europe. They got here just Before WW1 got started. ( what timing?)
There were so many fun moments with my Dad, right up until his 88th birthday, which I am so glad we were there to see.

Again thanks so much for the lovely cards.

I joined the Balogh family in 1980 and immediately was welcomed with open arms. Al was a great father-in-law and made me laugh often. He was funny, creative, a wonderful grandfather, and a special person all around. I will miss him!

I lived in Jensen Beach from 1992-1997 & met him at his neighbor Geri's house. He gave me a little wooden carved hummingbird that hangs on my Christmas tree every year. He was indeed a very special gentleman!! May god comfort you in this time of loss.

Thank you all so much. He was a great father. Strict, but loving and fun. He gave us a true appreciation of family and friends and what really matters in life. He made us know that he expected us to do our best. We are all going to miss him.
