Our family is saddened to announce the passing of Gwendolyn Kay (Lee-Holcombe) Wordell. Gwynn, as she was affectionately known by those who knew and loved her, transitioned peacefully on September 23, 2022 in Stuart, FL. She was a pillar of our family and will be dearly missed.
Gwynn was born in a log cabin on January 31, 1943 to Julius Calvin and Marylou (Cagle) Holcombe on the outskirts of Baltimore, Maryland. She was raised in Saluda/Hendersonville, North Carolina until her family relocated to Miami, Florida when she was 15 years old. Gwynn had a successful career in customer service with Winn Dixie in Miami where she became one of the corporations first female store managers.
Along with her passion for life, Gwynn will be most remembered for incredible work ethic and unwavering love for her boys. She raised her three sons as a devoted single mother for many years until she met the love of her life Lynden “Lyn” Wordell to whom she was happily married to for 25 years.
Gwynn was predeceased by her first-born son, Walter Lee Jr. (Little Walt) and her beloved husband Lynden Searle Wordell,
She is survived by her sister Mary Elizabeth “Libby” Wiseman (husband Chuck), her three sons Michael Lee (wife Gina), Jeffrey Lee (wife Susan) and Richard “Rick” Lee (wife Lisa). Her 5 cherished grandchildren whom she loved dearly: Calyn (27), Madison & Cassidy (19), Lilly (14) and Audri (10) and many cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and many loyal friends.
Gwynn was a force of nature. Everyone who knew Gwynn loved her for her fiery personality and quick wit. She loved to dance to classic country music such as Kenny Rogers and Johnny Cash. She loved playing cards and board games with her family and always enjoyed making those around her laugh.
