

Hazel Blundell Horan McDonough, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Aunt, Great Aunt, "Mema" to most, friend to many, teacher, tutor, and mentor went home to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on June 13, 2023.
Born Hazel Jean Blundell on November 6, 1939 to the late Eli and Vera (Murray) Blundell in Boston, MA. She lived a rich, full beautiful life of service. She graduated from high school and continued her education at Skidmore College receiving a Bachelor degree in Psychology. She then completed her first Master Degree in Clinical Psychology at Kent State University. She traveled Europe and Japan working as a nanny in Scotland and visiting her brother Barry Blundell while he worked for IBM in Japan. After completing her world travels she worked as a clinical psychologist until she decided to pursue her second Master degree in Education from Harvard University. She completed her Master Thesis two days before her beloved son, Seth was born in 1972. For several years she taught in schools in upstate New York before returning to Massachusetts to work for the Blackstone/Millville school district where she found her professional calling as an elementary school reading teacher. She retired in 2000 when she married her summer camp sweetheart, Jerome McDonough. They spent many happy years traveling the United States together. In 2019, Hazel moved to Florida to live with her son, Seth and Daughter-in-law Charla. She traveled with Seth and Charla all over Florida spending time in Fort Meyers, St. Augustine, and the Florida Keys. She bravely battled cancer for several months before returning to her home with Seth and Charla for hospice care.
She is proceeded in death by her parents, Eli and Vera Blundell, her brother, Barry Blundell, and her sister Cynthia Fox.
She is survived by her husband, Jerome McDonough, her son and daughter in law, Seth and Charla Horan, her grandchildren, Zach and Julia Horan, her sister Barbara Feeney, her nephews, nieces and their families, Cynthia Fox, Martin and Cathleen Fox, Matthew Fox, Kala and John Danca, Nicole Blundell and Jill Feeney.
A private memorial luncheon will be held for family and close friends on July 7, 2023 and she will be interred at Milton Cemetery with her parents and brother on July 8, 2023.
