James Lee Pence

Jim was born on October 5, 1946, in Rosman, North Carolina. Jim honorably served his country in the Vietnam War from 1965 through 1968 as a member of the United States Navy Seabees Construction Battalion.

Following his military service, Jim built a distinguished 26-year career at Florida Power & Light (FPL) based out of Juno Beach, Florida, serving as their Property Tax Manager and specializing in the complex valuation of its utility plants. After retiring from FPL, he opened his own company, Florida Valuation Services, where he enjoyed working alongside his son, Byron. Operating statewide, Jim became a successful entrepreneur/consultant widely known and deeply respected across Florida for his expertise in valuing utility plants. Many County Property Appraisers across the state were his clients and friends.

Jim's family, friends, co-workers, and clients will always remember how he genuinely cared about people. He was defined by his thoughtfulness, kindness, his willingness to help others, and a meticulous attention to detail in everything he touched. Outside of his work, Jim enjoyed spending time with his family and visiting his second home in Asheville, North Carolina.

Jim was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his wife, Linda; his son, Byron, and daughter-in-law, Michele; and his two cherished grandsons, Julian and Noah Pence. His family and friends will deeply miss his warmth, his steady wisdom, and the gentle strength he brought to all of their lives.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to The Hope Center for Autism (www.hopecenterforautism.org). Per Jim's wishes, no formal service will be held. The family will celebrate his life privately.
