

He was born on July 4, 1932 to Oliver GF Bonnert & Susan Thomas Bonnert in St. Mary’s, PA.
Known as “Ollie” to family & friends he was full of life, determination, ambition & had the ability to make people laugh and light up a room wherever he went,
He graduated from Penn State University in 1954 and began a business career that included business management at Steiner Textiles in Milford, DE, Barnett Textiles in Troy, NY and Business Manager of Plant operations at RPI in Troy, NY.
His career highlights were Vice President of Business Affairs at University of Miami in the 1970’s through the 1990’s.
His participation and love of sports led him to be instrumental in the development of the UM football program with the signing of Coach Lou Saban that then led to the rise of the UM football program to achieve 5 national football championships.
He was honored as a member of the UM Iron Arrow.
He finished his career as Vice President of plant operations at Jackson Memorial Hospital.
He reconnected with a family friend, married and they had 23 years of a loving marriage combining 2 lifelong families that became Yours, Mine & Ours. He loved his family and was the “funny Bump” that the kids adored. He leaves behind loving wife Yvonne Kovarovic Bonnert, 7 children, 12 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren. He passed away peacefully at home in the comforting arms of his loved ones.
In his retirement he was the author of 2 novels, Guilty and Neighbors.
He was one of a kind, good hearted all around funny guy who was dearly loved & will be forever missed. In the words of his favorite Frank Sinatra song, he lived his life just as the song says, I did it “My Way.”
