Reinhardt Frederick Luthmann, age 92, husband of Margaret Mary (Kemp) passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 19 at Palm City Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born April 16,1926 in Hoboken, New Jersey to Reinhardt and Elsa (Jessen) Luthmann.
Following graduation from high school, Reinhardt enlisted and served in the U.S.Navy from 1944 through
1946. He then went on to graduate from Stevens Institute of Technology with a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. Throughout his career both in plant management and director of manufacturing, he was highly regarded for his successful, customizing approach in problem solving. Later as a specialist in high-grade precision glass used in electronics and medical diagnostic instruments, he traveled
internationally assisting companies such as Phillips NV (Netherlands) on its uses.
Reinhardt was formerly an active member of the Lions Club of Essex County, NJ, served as President of
the Estuary Condominium Association in Stuart, a Chi Phi Fraternity brother and a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus.
On Easter Sunday, April 16, 1949, Reinhardt and Margaret were married, and eventually settled their family in Wilton, Connecticut where they all enjoyed swimming, boating and fishing on the Long Island Sound. In 1995, a few years after his retirement, their love of the ocean brought them to the Treasure Coast and their new home along the North Fork in Stuart. Throughout their life together, Reinhardt's love for Maggie and their family was always his greatest joy, and spending their retirement years at the beach fishing or just enjoying their river view became their favorite pastime.
Besides his love of the sea and boats, Rein was an avid bowler and loved cars, drawing, reading, traveling and most of all the comics; sharing jokes and riddles especially with his grandson.
In addition to his beloved wife, "Maggie", he is survived by his daughter, Mary Margaret Laura (Paul),
son, Mark Reinhardt Luthmann (Caroline) and grandson, Michael Reinhardt Laura, as well as his sister, Lydia Smith (Robert) and their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
