In 1954 he graduated from Valparaiso Technical Institute. Upon Graduation he was hired by WITY Radio Station in Danville as an engineer. During those 8 years he participated in all aspects of radio including News, Sports, Disc Jockey and Advertising. He became Program Director in 1962.
He then was instrumental in starting a radio station in Watseka, Illinois, WGFA AM-FM. His corporation then purchased WTKE AM-FM in Hartford, Wisconsin and WRBA AM in Bloomington- Normal, Illinois. He purchased WRBA in 1982 which he operated until 1986 when he sold the station to Withers Broadcasting. He continued with them providing consulting services to that station and several others in Illinois, Iowa and Missouri.
In 1964 he was the Broad-caster for the Illinois Basketball Games.
In 1987 He was hired by Coit Industries to operate the Atlantic Beacon Radio Station in the British West Indies, a 50,000 watt station whose signal covered the Southwest United States and Western Europe. At the end of the 2 year contract he returned to the United States locating in Jensen Beach, Florida. For 5 years he operated a Golf Cart Business located inside the Stuart Florida Yacht and Country Club.
Surviving are his wife Karen Diane Bivans of Jensen Beach, one son, Robert Allen Bivans of Richmond, Virginia, 2 grandchildren, Josie and Jacob and one sister Ann Heffernan of Tampa, Florida.
