Happy Birthday my sweet boy. There is and will always be a missing space in our lives, our families, a forever-hole-in-our-hearts. Time does not make the space less empty. I wish people could understand that grief lasts forever because love lasts forever; that the loss of a child is not one finite event, it is a continuous loss that unfolds minute by minute over the course of a lifetime. How is it possible that it has been four years since I said goodbye? Four long yet short years. Today I celebrated your life with kind acts in your memory. Giving a tent to a homeless man something I could so see you doing. Thanking the nurses at Trauma Center for care that you received. Delivering breakfast to ER. Finally writing thank you notes to family farway for their constant thoughtfulness and heartfelt prayers. I hope that a ripple effect will comtinue in your memory. MADLY more.

Stephen's angelversary: February 25, 2015:
I normally don't have to work very hard to have patience with my 8th graders. Today I had to work VERY hard because I didn't feel well. I very PURPOSELY gave my chitlans extra grace, listened more intently, spoke less, and let my presence be positive instead of how I "felt." Sometimes when I think of Stephen, I wonder about his teachers. Going to school this morning, I wondered how many of his teachers prayed for him. I know there were some that purposely prayed for him. I wish I could talk to them. It makes me smile when I think of Stephen and school because I think he and his dad probably felt the same!!!

Stephen . . . this is a text that I sent your dad November 10th:
Steve! Stephen just sent the The most beautiful sunrise I have ever seen!!! He said he loves you and he loves his mom! Please let Lori know I heard from him . . . he said he's always close you by your side!! I couldn't take a picture because I was driving. It's so magnificent. It's so different that's how I knew it was from him. I love you big bro!"
He sent this text back: "Just this morning I asked him if he could hear me :)"
I've never seen such a beautiful sunrise. It was infused with pink, blue, and orange. There were squares that looked like soft cotton. At work and later that evening at a banquet everyone was talking about the sunrise. Your dad and mom miss you SO much. Every time I talk to your dad, I ask for a Levi story. You've got a wonderful little guy!

Today is the day I've been dreading since you left...
Levi came home from school today and asked if you were dead. It was even more difficult to answer his questions than I ever imagined. When he asked why you died, the only thing I could think to tell our son was that you had a bad booboo and the doctors couldn't save you. That's when he asked me why I didn't protect you like I protect him.... I've asked myself a version of that same question every day. I miss you so much Stephen and really need you to help guide me through this for our son! I can't do this without you. <3 all my Love Always and Forever

My beautiful boy I miss you more each day. Please watch over Levi I am so worried about him. My wants for you as you grew up have now passed on to your son. All I ever wanted for you was to feel and have what your Dad and I have. A true love, loving family and a happy home. I pray that Levi will have these things both as a child and as an adult. I know you are still with me but it will never be the same happy home without you. We told ourselves long ago we could be happy just the two of us if we were unable to have a child but that was before you. Once you have a child and then  lose it, just the two of you never feels right again. MADLY More and Forever.

I read your whole guest book again today. I am sad that you are not here but amazed by the love and sweet thoughts that are shared here. I miss you everyday! You are not forgotten. 
I still remember your smile, your gentle, quiet demeanor and most of all your super special hugs! I wish with all my heart that you were still here. Your mom and dad loved you so much. They have done well in trying to pick up the pieces and make the best of it. Levi makes that somewhat possible, but they ache for you too. We all loved you so much and miss you everyday. Levi is about to start VPK... He is growing up so quickly! I had a dream about you last night. We were walking Levi to his class on his first day of school. Levi started crying because we were leaving and you got down on your knees and hugged him. You should be with us and we miss you so much Stephen! I honestly don't know how to do this without you. I sure miss you Stephen, every day is a struggle. I think of you ALL the time. I even find myself crying on the way to work everyday. This is way too hard to live with. It seems that I miss you more every day... Levi is growing up so fast, and with every day that goes by, he reminds me of you. Don't like the way I am feeling lately. Sad...angry...jealous...all those feelings I had when I wanted a baby and everyone else was getting pregnant. I buried all of this but it just resurfaces when I start missing you and asking WHY. That night was   going to a new begining Dad just got TWO jobs no more worries. What was I dreaming, because with the ring of the phone the two men I loved most in the world vanished. Things will never be normal again. Now I worry all the time. Its now been three years....thats how long prayed for GOD to bring us a baby to love and now I just pray for him to give you back.  I guess its time to stop asking for the impossible and to be thankful for the blessings we did recieve.

I'm thinking about how you can enjoy the beautiful parts of the earth that are warm and the parts that are so COLD and snowy. Tell your Grandma Belvadeen Jones that I've played her piano today. I hope she's keeping you and all of the angels in line. She kept your Grandpa Jones laughing and shaking his head.  Has your Grandma taught you to play the accordion yet? I can't imagine that being a cool thing that you would want to do . . . but she could be persuasive!You are both dearly cherished and sorely missed. I felt like I was in a time warp Sunday, I looked out towards the ocean and saw Levi playing in the waves with you Dad and it was like being transported back twenty four years. He is so much like you from his sense of humor, shyness,beautiful eyes, solid build, mannerisms, down to the monkey toes on his chubby feet.  Oh he IS his fathers SON.  We will make sure he never forgets it. I know you loved him very much and he will too.  I look back on those happy memories thats what keeps me going. It's easier to keep your mind off your own pain while you are thinking of others. We sent  dinner to the ER nurses in your memory. Dad paid for the person behind him at Dunkin Donuts gave him you funeral card and asked him to pay it forward in your memory.  My favorite was act was giving my umbrella to the old man holding a sign at the stoplight in the rain.  It was almost like you were sitting right  there beside me.  I haven't forgotten the Palm City firestation hopefully we can do something for them next week. I will try to keep passing kindness on in your memory.  M.A.D.L.Y. Does this ever get any better? Will I ever stop reliving that night? I want it to stop.  Growing up I always knew, just this strange feeling I would be forever wanting to be a mother then YOU appeared like a gift from God. I thought those fears and worries were gone but here I sit once again with blurry eyes, a tear stained face and a pain that will not go away. Once again I am jealous of all the people that have thier children and don't realize how lucky they are.  It could all change tomorrow. I should have known it was to good to be true. I always said getting Stephen was so easy I just knew it would never happen again. Maybe we never were given another child because losing Stephen was going to be so hard. MADLY!!!!! MORE!!!

Today is when I think about how truly blessed I was that GOD chose for me to be your mother.  Both your girls called to tell me Happy Mothers Day. When your child is gone are you still a mother? I don't know. The more time that passes the more this seems to hurt.  I 'm so afraid I'm going to forget something like the sound of your voice, how tall you felt when you hugged me or how your eyes seemed to light up when you smiled. I'll try not to worry I know everythings gonna be ok. That was your message to me on the radio Bob Marley's Three Little Birds.

Although not a day goes by that I don't think of you, today you are in my thoughts more than usual. I keep your picture by my bed every night because I know you are watching over me. Whenever South Park comes on I start to smile because it reminds me that you are still here. I'll never forget how excited all the girl cousins would get when we would see you..you were always our favorite even though you hated when we would cling on to you :) I'd do anything to chase Stimpy around the house with you again, or even lock Karissa in the closet for our pure entertainment. I can't wait until we meet again so I can hug you once more. I pray everyday for mantante and uncle Steve because I know how much they are hurting. You were their greatest gift. They wouldn't have traded the life you gave them for the world...None of us would. I was home this weekend and got to see Levi. He is getting so big and handsome. Those eyes are so gorgeous and he loves playing peak-a-boo(if hes in the mood LOL). Having him with us is a miracle. It's god way of physically keeping you in our arms. Mantante and uncle Steve are throwing his 2nd birthday party this weekend and I know you will be watching. I love you very very much Stevie and I miss you more and more everyday. For those of you who were unable to attend Stephens memorial service, the following words were written from my heart. Our good friends, Scott and his beautiful wife Susan were able to fly down to attend the service. Scott read this eulogy on my behalf as a memorial to our son Stephen. He hit it out of the park!          


As Stephens father and I say that proudly, I would like to share a few of the many memories I have.  

We held him for the first time when he was only five days old.  I was now a dad, and was happier than ever, and the happiness and love continued to grow. He was MY son, and I let everyone know it, especially him. We were buddies to the end. 

Once when he was about five or six he upset his mother doing something boys do. She told him to go to his room and said to me, I hope you spank him for that, so I followed him into his room and shut the door. He looked up at me and I was laughing and I told him, I am going to hit the bed a couple of times then you start crying.  He grinned from ear to ear. Afterward he told his mother he was sorry, also part of the plan.  I could never spank a gift that was so special to me, deserving or not. Stephen is a very bright boy in whatever he tried to do. 

In ninth grade he took a computer class. One day he set up a website in the classroom so when the teacher booted everyone up it went to a site that had everyone in the classroom laughing but the teacher. Stephen told us, I lost my internet privileges however, he said no worries, I have it figured out and can get around it.

He liked to seem tough on the outside, but he was a really, really, big hearted boy. In fact as per his wishes Stephen was an organ donor, and also a bone and skin tissue donor. He made this choice on his own. Sunday morning about 3 AM we received a call from the Transplant Center in Miami, Stephen saved the lives of five different people with that big heart, kidneys, liver, bone marrow, and skin tissue. I still love that boy more than any five of those people or their families ever could. 

To dispel rumors on Stephens behalf, I want to assure everyone his toxicology report was as clean as it gets. He had a rage he could not control when it overcame him and he did not know why. 

God Bless You infinitely, Stephen.  I bet you are trying to talk God into a candy apple red paint job with solid gold flakes on his personal yacht. I love you little buddy and I miss you more than anyone could ever know, except of course your very loving mother. I cannot wait until I can get one of your big ole bear hugs again. You will be in my thoughts until the day I die.    DAD
