Born in 1935 in Buncombe County, NC, to parents Robert and Grace Lawson, she met the love of her life, John L. Hughes, in Johnson City, TN. They shared over 60 wonderful years together as husband and wife.
She retired from the Pasco County School System after 25 years of service, during which she often paid for needy children’s meals out of her own pocket.
Fondly called "Granny," Barbara was known for being kind, unconditionally loving, and unapologetically generous to everyone she knew.
A special mention to Dawn Martin, Amanda Williamson, Amanda Sterling, and Paula Walker for always being a part of Granny's life and helping whenever it was needed.
Barbara was a firm believer in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and is now home in glory.
Proverbs 31:28 – Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her.
Private interment will take place at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida, where Barbara will be laid to rest with her husband, John, in section 626 site 408.
Barbara's obituary was lovingly and thoughtfully prepared by her family.
Arrangements especially for Mrs. Barbara Ann Hughes and her family have been made through Monte Vista Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 1900 E. Oakland Avenue, Johnson City, TN; 423-282-2631.
