Burt "BJ" Mathes

Burt “BJ” Mathes, age 71, passed away on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at his residence. He was born in Barberton, Ohio, a son of the late Herbert Roy Mathes and Betty Lee White Mathes. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by paternal grandparents, Willard Earl and Maude Mathes; and one brother, Garry Mathes.

BJ worked at Pepsi Cola Bottling Company for sixteen years and also ran a pressure washing business.

He is survived by his wife, Helen Blankenship Mathes; children, Adam Mathes and wife Helen, Tracy Boyd and husband Brian, and Joshua Pate; twelve grandchildren, Hannah (Caleb) Mathes, Avery and Asher Mathes, Christian (Tori) Boyd, Isaiah (Hannah) Boyd, Angelina (Mason) Boyd, Sebastian Boyd, Joshua Pate, Adelynne Pate and Jullian Pate, Magnolia Miller, and Micah Rhinhart; and several cousins.

The family will receive friends Friday, April 18, 2025 from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Monte Vista Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will follow at 7:00 PM with Pastor John David Shelton and Pastor Roland Whittemore officiating.
