Daniel Joe Runion, 66, passed away on April 25, 2026. Born December 22, 1959, in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, Daniel’s life was marked by steady devotion to those he loved, a thoughtful presence, and a gift for humor that stayed with him through every season of life.
As a young man, Daniel loved sports and consistently made the all-star team in little league. He also earned a gold medal in the Junior Olympics in Judo—an early sign of the determination and focus that would continue to shape his years.
Daniel worked as an ironworker for a time and also for United States Steel. He later spent the remainder of his working years as an upholsterer and furniture preparer for Ethan Allen. An injury on the job ultimately led to his retirement.
Daniel loved to fish in both salt water and fresh water, especially with the kids, and those moments reflected the warmth and care he brought to family life. After his accident and divorce, he moved to Tennessee, where he lived out his last 22 years. Daniel loved the mountains of Tennessee, a place tied to cherished memories of visiting his grandparents often, and it was only natural that he returned to the landscape he held close. He lived in Unicoi, Tennessee up until his passing.
To know Daniel was to know someone beloved—someone who could meet life with a steady heart and still be quick-witted, ready with a funny story or a well-timed remark that lifted the room. His thoughtfulness showed in the way he connected with others, and his humor remained a familiar comfort to family and friends alike. There was simply no better a person than Daniel J. Runion, and all that knew him would agree.
Daniel is survived by his daughter, Sarah Price; his son, Tyler Runion; his father, Carroll Runion; his brother, Douglas Runion; and many extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Betty J Runion.
A Funeral Service will be held at Monte Vista Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 1900 E OAKLAND AVE, Johnson City, Tennessee 37601, on May 5, 2026, at 9:00 am. A Graveside Committal will follow at Monte Vista Funeral Home & Memorial Park on May 5, 2026, at 10:00 am.
