Donald Malcolm Lightner, age 70, of Johnson City, TN, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at his residence. He was born on September 30, 1949, in Petersburg, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Agnes (Piper) Lightner and Earnest Sylvester Lightner. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Marvin W. Lightner, Sr., Lombard Lightner, Larry Lightner who was the twin of Lorna, and Kenneth Lightner; and three sisters, Linda “Sis” Mitchell, Lorna Durner, and Susan Keyser Cunningham.
Following their eldest children, Agnes and Earnest relocated the family to Naples, Florida, where Don attended Naples High School and was an All-Star football player and co-captain of his High School football team – The Eagles. Don was quiet by nature, though charming with handsome good looks, adventurous, and a real jokester! He enjoyed Country Western music and loved to dance, particularly the two-step. He looked forward to the weekend flea markets, where he would spend hours looking for coins to add to his growing collection, rings, necklaces, and knick-knacks. For his entire working life, Don was a master plasterer for both commercial and residential properties and was very proud of his work throughout South Florida and Texas. His favorite car in his youth was a classic Chevrolet Chevelle SS, mint green with back race stripes, which he often spoke of with fond memories. Don was a generous person who loved his family, made friends easily, and would give you the shirt off his own back in times of need.
He is survived by daughter, Kimberly Reed and husband Hugh, their daughters, Chloe Reed and Olivia Reed; son, Malcolm Lightner and wife Diana Dumitru, and their son, Colton Lightner; daughter, Dani Lightner, and her children, Bryce Myers and Hannah Myers; daughter, Dawny Sanders and husband James, and their son, Holden Sanders; step daughter, Margaret Emerick; one sister, Nada Kyper; and ex-wife and faithful friend, Kathy Lightner.
There will be no formal services held.
Arrangements especially for Mr. Donald Malcolm Lightner and his family have been made through Monte Vista Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 1900 E. Oakland Avenue, Johnson City, TN; 423-282-2631.
