Johnny was born on September 14, 1938, to the late Burk and Myrtle Saylor. He spent more than 50 years working in drywall construction and was known for his incredible work ethic, quiet strength, and willingness to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
A devoted husband, Johnny married the love of his life, Cookie, on June 8, 1963. Together they built a beautiful life and family. He was a loving and loyal father to three children—Ronald (who preceded him in death), Laura, and Thomas—and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather. He had a playful wit and was always ready with a quick, funny remark, especially in his banter with Cookie, which brought smiles to everyone around them.
Johnny had a passion for sports and staying active. A born-again Christian, he found strength and peace in his faith and loved going to the gym. Though soft-spoken, his presence was deeply felt, and his kindness left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Vernice “Cookie” Saylor; his children Thomas (Paige) Saylor and Laura (Greg) Wier; grandchildren Kinsley Saylor, Jennifer (Sean) Ryan, David (Chelsea) Saylor, Layne Hurd, Kirstin Mulkey, Eiron Mulkey, and Gregory Wier; eight great-grandchildren; his sister Rosie Toi Overbay; his brother Kenneth Wayne Saylor; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Burk and Myrtle Saylor; his son Ronald D. Saylor; his granddaughter Samantha Saylor; Great granddaughter Addilynn Grace; and four sisters and four brothers.
Johnny’s legacy of love, loyalty, and quiet strength will continue to live on through his family and all who knew him.
