Lorna Kay Cox, age 82, of Johnson City, Tennessee, passed away on Thursday, May 8, 2025 after a brief illness. She was born in LaFollette, Tennessee, a daughter of the late Earl Hampton and Gladys Tallent Hampton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Monroe Cox; one sister, Gail Combs; one niece, Sharon Miller; and one great nephew, Blair Birchfield.
Lorna lived most of her life in Johnson City and was a homemaker. She was a member of Unaka Avenue Baptist Church. Her greatest joy was taking care of her family and home, and her second joy was reading. She also enjoyed playing the piano, vacationing in Myrtle Beach, SC and traveling in the mountains of North Carolina.
She is survived by one son, Joe David Cox; one daughter, Rachel Gail Cox; special nephew, David Collins; one brother-in-law, Luther Cox and wife Nancy; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Cox; and several nieces and nephews.
It was her wish to not have a formal service. A Private Inurnment will be held in Garden of Sermon on the Mount at Monte Vista Memorial Park.
