Marilyn Jane Kimball, age 72, of Johnson City, Tennessee passed away on Monday, March 31, 2025 at the Johnson City Medical Center. She was born in Newburgh, New York, the daughter of the late Robert Joel Kimball and Doris Muriel Pope Kimball. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, David Larkin Kimball.
Marilyn cheerfully lived a life of generosity and selflessness. She spent her career in Vermont as a Speech Language Pathologist and received numerous awards and recognitions. After moving to Tennessee, Marilyn was an active member of the The Old Timers Hiking Club and regularly enjoyed their hikes, outings, and adventures. Marilyn attended Munsey Memorial United Methodist Church. She enjoyed trekking through the Southwest with her longtime companion, Tim. She also enjoyed downhill skiing, sewing, and going to live concerts and performances. She LOVED spending time with her grandchildren. She embraced their interests, including portraying “Mother Ginger” in the Nutcracker for her granddaughters and making a binder of sports teams and their mascots for her grandson. She instilled in them her love of reading, exploring, swimming…and manners. She was incredibly thoughtful; always knowing just the right thing to help someone or cheer them up. Marilyn was the best mom her children could have asked for. She will be deeply missed by her family and many dear friends.
She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Lisa Holbrook and husband Landon; one son, Brian Filak; three grandchildren, Isaac, Natalie and Eliza Holbrook; one brother and sister-in-law, Raymond Joel Kimball and wife Rosemary; one nephew, Peter Kimball and wife Leslie; one niece, Elizabeth Kimball; and great niece and nephew, John and Lane Kimball.
