Sandra Meade Garber, age 82, of Arizona (formerly of Farragut, TN), passed to her eternal home on September 15, 2023. She was born in Johnson City, TN, to Roy and Myrtle Meade. Her death was caused by complications due to Lewy Body dementia.
Sandra lived a full life of love and service for her church, family and her community. After graduating from the University of Tennessee, she taught elementary school in Oak Ridge. She taught nursery school at her church, Concord United Methodist Church, where she participated faithfully for many years in the Sunday School and other programs. Her many years of volunteer community service and leadership included activities with Akima Club of Knoxville, Leadership Knoxville Class of 1991, James White’s Fort Board, Florence Crittenton Agency Board, John Tarleton Home Board, Arts Council of Greater Knoxville, Farragut Arts Council, Dogwood Arts Festival, and Knoxville Symphony League. Sandy developed and managed a special program, Read With Me, in the Knox County Mayor’s office to recruit more than 700 volunteers to help children with reading in the county schools. Sandy was an avid tennis player until health issues restricted her play at age 81. Sandra’s love and spirit of service to others will be greatly missed by many who shared in her life.
Sandra was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived and will be deeply missed by her husband of 62 years, Joel Garber, daughter Karen Kochhar (husband Sunir) of Arizona, son Scott Garber of Colorado, grandchildren Kiran Eberle (husband Richard) of Chattanooga and Neil Kochhar of Arizona, great-grandchildren Henry and Wilson Eberle of Chattanooga, and sister Judith Meade of Knoxville.
Sandy’s favorite hours were spent on the beach with her husband, parents, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren throughout the years. She was a very good sport to join the family on many ski trips in which she waited by the fireplace for us to return. Her love and spirit will continue to live in our hearts.
A Private Service will be held for the family with Dr. Kenneth Carder officiating. A Private Interment will be held in the Garden of Peace at Monte Vista Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, you may make donations in her name to the Concord United Methodist Church memorial fund.
